Bloc Québécois

IDEOLOGIES
The party draws its roots from 1990 when they were unable to change the constitution to recognize Quebec as a distinct society. The entire point of the party is to protect Quebec’s interests and promote its sovereignty. The party is social democratic and separatist. The part was intended to be dissolved after a successful referendum on secession from Canada but as this has not happened it continues to operate.
Lucien Bouchard was the minister of the environment when he left the Progressive Conservative government of Brian Mulroney after a report of a commission headed by Jean Charest that suggested changes to the Meech Lake Accord. He was joined by fellow conservative Nic Leblanc, Louis Plamondon, Benoît Tremblay,Gilbert Chartrand, and François Gérin, along with two Liberals, Gilles Rocheleau and Jean Lapierre. The Bloc is mostly leftwing except it has very strong views about Quebec separating from Canada.
